RHU DIGITAL UROLOGY 3D Celebrates Its 1st Anniversary

On April 15, 2022, the DIGITAL UROLOGY 3D research programme was officially launched at the Pôle Juridique et Judiciaire of the University of Bordeaux. Dedicated to improving the management of kidney cancer—with a strong focus on surgery, the current gold standard treatment—this innovative initiative brings together a consortium of academic and industrial stakeholders, including four public and four private partners.

1st anniversary of the RHU Digital Urology 3D

Key achievements from the first year:

  • Launch of a clinical study with 37 patients enrolled;
  • Annotation of 90 surgical videos to support augmented reality development;
  • Completion of two clinical study protocols, scheduled to begin in 2023;
  • Characterisation of two biomimetic materials for 3D printing applications;
  • Organisation of 18 project coordination meetings;
  • 41 professionals funded by the project.

As we move into the second year, several major milestones lie ahead, including the launch of the ANXIETY study (UroCCR No. 113) and the MECHANICS study (UroCCR No. 115). This phase will also mark the first in-theatre applications of augmented reality and the initial biomimetic 3D printed kidney models based on patient-specific imaging.

We look forward to continuing this journey and sharing the promising developments in the year to come. The DIGITAL UROLOGY 3D programme stands as a beacon of progress in advancing kidney cancer treatment.
